Potentiation ↔ Normalization

How systems amplify or return to their mean. The dimension of divergence and regression, of breakthrough and homeostasis — where regence is decided.

Regence is neither the runaway tail nor the perfect mean — it is the law that distributes events between them. Two histories indistinguishable until today can diverge abysmally tomorrow because the regime that generated them was never the same. Potentiation alone is catastrophe; normalization alone is the long flat line. Living regimes oscillate: every departure is met by a return; every return seeds a possible departure.

Regence

The Daturoma replaces the empirical question "what is happening?" with a procedural one: from what regime is this being drawn, and where does the tail of that regime point? Two histories indistinguishable until today can diverge abysmally tomorrow — not because something new is introduced, but because the law that distributes their events was never the same.

MULTISCALAR MANIFESTATIONS

• PHYSICAL: A laser potentiates (♢) coherence; thermal noise normalizes (=) it back toward equilibrium. The coherent beam is a tail event held open by continuous pumping.
• EVOLUTIONARY: Mutation potentiates (♢) variation; selection and drift normalize (=) most variants back toward the population mean. Speciation is a rare tail that escaped the pull.
• ECONOMIC: A market boom potentiates (♢) prices beyond fundamentals; mean reversion (=) eventually pulls them back. The history of bubbles is the history of a regime widening and snapping shut.
• PSYCHIC: Desire potentiates (♢) attention; habituation normalizes (=) the salient back into background. Pleasure depends on a regime that cannot be experienced as a constant.
• GEOLOGICAL: Pressure builds in a fault until a slip (♢) releases it; the rest of the slope normalizes (=) around the new equilibrium. The catastrophe was always implicit in the regime.
• POLITICAL: Revolution potentiates (♢) a new social arrangement; the long durée normalizes (=) it into a new orthodoxy. What was the tail becomes the bulk.
